Over 40 companies from across the country showed up to the Herff College of Engineering & Internship Fair on Friday, February 6.

In all, 43 companies sent representatives to recruit Herff鈥檚 top talent, including St. Jude Children鈥檚 Research Hospital, Smith & Nephew, Turner, ARDOT, Flintco, the Tennessee Valley Authority and the University of Tennessee Space Institute.

鈥淲e鈥檙e here at every engineering career fair because of the talent that comes from Herff,鈥 said Andre Porter of the University of Tennessee Space Institute.

Other companies returning to the career fair included St. Jude Children鈥檚 Research Hospital鈥檚 STEM Education and Outreach Program, which at the time of the career fair employed five current or former Herff students as interns, and Flintco LLC, which sent two Herff alumni back to campus to evaluate potential employees.

鈥淚 actually got a job with (Flintco) before I graduated,鈥 said Flintco Assistant Project Manager Abby Cook, who graduated from the Herff College of Engineering in 2022. Cook told current students that the internships she held while attending school at the Herff College of Engineering were vital to her career.

鈥淗aving that experience was valuable because it gave me real-life examples and real-life situations to apply my schooling to. So, I was actually able to make connections with people and talk to people who were in the field every single day doing what I wanted to do when I graduated,鈥 Cook said.

It wasn鈥檛 just companies returning to find Herff鈥檚 best. Several students, like Mechanical Engineering Junior Gabriel Lail, who have prior experience finding internships through the college鈥檚 career fair, showed up looking for their next opportunity.

鈥淟ast summer, through Herff, I was actually able to get an internship at Medtronic and this summer I鈥檓 looking to find a new opportunity that opens horizons and gives me a pathway into a job one day,鈥 Lial said.

Whether advancing in their field or searching for their first professional experience, dozens of Herff students, resume in hand, took the next step in their careers.
