Dr. Sasser is a clinical full professor at the Loewenberg College of Nursing and is certified as a family nurse practitioner (FNP-C) and certified nurse educator (CNE). He began his nursing career more than 20 years ago working in the intensive care unit at Regional One Health. As a family nurse practitioner, Dr. Sasser has worked in primary care including pediatrics, retail health, and weight/wellness management. He received his Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Dr. Sasser has experience teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate nursing courses and currently serves as the director of the MSN program at LCON. He has served on many committees and groups from the college to national levels including faculty affairs committee (chair), undergraduate admissions committee, undergraduate council, graduate council (chair), graduate curriculum sub-committee (chair), evaluation committee, promotion & tenure committee, student research forum work-group, clinical faculty promotion committee, faculty & admin search committees, university graduate grade appeals committee, university pride and equity alliance, journal peer review panels, and with the National League for Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. His research/scholarship interests include quality improvement in primary care, teaching/learning, curriculum design, and aging.
