Q: Who is eligible to utilize the services provided by Academic Coaching & Support Services?

A: ALL students are welcome and encouraged to participate in the services provided offered by Academic Coaching & Support Services.

FAQs for Academic Alert, Notice, and Deferment Students

Q: Do you all process readmission applications for students not in Good Standing that are seeking to return to the UofM?

A: All readmission applications are reviewed and processed by the Office of Admissions. ACSS supports students after the readmission process is complete.

Q: Do you all handle financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals?

A: Financial aid matters - including SAP appeals - are managed by the Office of Financial Aid. Students are encouraged to contact Financial Aid directly for guidance on eligiblity and submission process.

Q: Do I have to see Academic Coaching and Support Services before I can meet with my advisor?

A: It鈥檚 not required for students to meet with us before seeing their advisor, but we would like to connect with them before the semester begins.

Q: Can the students on Academic Alert, Academic Notice or returning from Academic Deferment Drop or Withdraw from a class?

A: Yes. Academically, it is better for a student to drop or withdraw from a course because earning a 鈥淒鈥 or 鈥淔鈥 will have a negative impact on their GPA and possibly lead to Academic Deferment. However, we always recommend that a student have a conversation with their Academic Advisor and Financial Aid to discuss those implications and make an informed decision prior to making any schedule changes.

Q: Can a student that is on Academic Deferment attend another university until they can come back to UofM?

A: That is up to the other institution they are interested in attending.

Q: I am a readmitted student and I have an Academic Coaching and Support Services (ACSS) hold. When will it be lifted?

A: We will not lift any ACSS holds until a student has been officially readmitted to the university. All ACSS holds are automatically lifted once we have been notified of their readmission by the Office of Admissions. It typically takes Admissions up to 48 hours to process applications once they have been submitted.

Q: How do I get an Academic Fresh Start?

A: The Registrar鈥檚 Office oversees that process.

Q: What is the Academic Renewal and do I qualify?

A: Your academic advisor is a great resource to get up-to-date information and assist you in that process. In addition, more information can be found on memphis.edu/casa/coachandsupport.

Q: How can a student get enrolled in ACAD 2200?

A: ACAD 2200 is for students who are on First Academic Notice. Those students will be provided with the CRN鈥檚 and should register for ACAD 2200 along with their other courses. Students must be enrolled in at least one other course to enroll in ACAD 2200.
