Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is a professional organization dedicated to the professional advancement of human resource (HR) management. The University of 蜜桃导航 SHRM Student Chapter provides innovative programming for students to learn more about the HR and to network with local professionals via professional chapter meetings, seminars, job shadowing and internship opportunities.

蜜桃导航 is a major logistics and corporate hub 鈥� FedEx, AutoZone and International Paper are all headquartered here, and companies like Amazon, Nike and St. Jude actively recruit from our college. Equally important, the city鈥檚 major employers are dedicated to the economic growth of the city and prioritize University of 蜜桃导航 graduates when hiring.
Internships are built into the curriculum and unlike many other colleges we do not leave it up to find your own; we actively work to create internship opportunities. Additionally, through classroom visits, CPCD organized and activities, and our MILE program, you鈥檒l have networking opportunities with local employers multiple times each semester.
MILE stands for the 蜜桃导航 Institute of Leadership Education. To our knowledge, it鈥檚 the only program like it in the country. Students in each cohort are matched with a mentor in their career path (e.g., management or human resources). Through monthly on-on-ones and group meetings, you鈥檒l develop your career readiness, build a professional network while in school, and enhance your leadership potential.
The Management degree includes several HRM courses but focuses on more general management skills applicable to any career path, e.g., decision making and strategic thinking. If your goal is a job in HRM, you should definitely major in HRM as our course covers fundamental skills required by HR professionals.
We offer an elective called 鈥淎I-Infused Leadership.鈥� In Fall 2026, we are developing a second course on the effective, ethical use of AI in all jobs. We have revised our curriculum so that most modules (e.g., giving performance feedback) includes not only the 鈥渃lassic鈥� empirically-supported methods but also how AI tools can augment the process.

Many ways! We have an active and successful internship program. The FCBE CPCD brings employers on campus each month who come with goal of meeting students and sharing their brand. The FCBE MILE program would pair you with a professional mentor in Management or Human Resource Management who can open doors for you.

More than one helps if you can manage it, but what matters most to employers is real responsibility in your role, not just a line on resume. One internship with genuine ownership beats two that were mostly clerical. We will work with you to find strong internship experiences.
When you graduate, your network your involvement outside of classes will set you apart more than your GPA. The college offers regular programming (and skill building) throughout the year.  MILE provides opportunities for professional and personal growth. Our student chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management is offered to all majors and provides monthly social and informational meetings all involving local employers.

Pursuing a degree in Management has introduced me to a world of opportunities I had never experienced before. During my time at FCBE, I鈥檝e built meaningful connections with mentors and industry professionals through programs like 蜜桃导航 Institute for Leadership Education (MILE)鈥攅xpanding my professional network before graduating. My coursework and faculty have transformed the way I think, strengthened my leadership within student organizations, and equipped me with highly transferable skills. This experience has elevated my confidence, sharpened my capabilities and deepened my understanding of what effective leadership truly looks like.
