What degrees do we offer?

Instruction in performance leading to the Bachelor of Music in Music with a concentration in Performance is provided for the following areas: Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Tuba, and Euphonium (Brass Instruments); Piano, Harpsichord, and Organ (Keyboard Instruments); Percussion; Violin, Viola, Violoncello, Bass, Guitar, and Harp (String Instruments), Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, and Bassoon (Woodwind Instruments); Voice.

  • Josh Martin (DMA in progress) is Visiting Instructor of Musical Theater Voice at University of ҵ, Spring 2026.

  • Bryce Goodson (BM, Music Education 2029) will perform the role of Toby in Opera ҵ’s production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

  • Emily DeMerchant (DMA in progress) Poster Presentation, “Unearthing Poldowsky: Technical and Pedagogical Considerations for Voice Teachers,” at the 2026 NATS National Convention in San Antonio.

  • Jackie Tawil-Brown (DMA in progress) In 2026, she will sing Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte at Opera Seme in Tuscany. In 2025, she sang the role of Betty Paris in The Crucible with Harrower Opera Workshop, sang in a scenes program with Sewanee Opera Festival, and was a Young Artist in Tosca with Spotlight on Opera.

  • Anthony Valle (BM Vocal Performance 2026) In 2025, he sang Bartolo and Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro with Tokyo Opera Studio in Japan and was a Young Artist in Tosca with Spotlight on Opera. He was nominated for an Ostrander Theatre Award for his role in The Most Happy Fella at the University of ҵ.

  • Darius Taylor (DMA in progress) In 2025, Darius sang in All Is Calm with Opera Steamboat and in The Playground King with Opera ҵ.

  • Shannon Jongema (DMA in progress) Currently serves as an Adjunct Instructor at Southeast Missouri State University. In 2025, she was nominated for an Ostrander Theatre Award for her role in The Most Happy Fella at the University of ҵ.

  • Haena Jeong (DMA in progress) Will sing Mahler Songs of a Wayfarer with the ҵ Symphony Orchestra in 2026 and is the University of ҵ concerto competition winner.

  • Jonathan Rhoades (MM Vocal Performance 2025) Is the Choir Director at Midland Legacy Freshman High School in Texas. He was a Young Opera Artist at Opera in the Ozarks in 2025.

  • Desiree Howe (MM Vocal Performance 2020, DMA in progress) National Finalist and Mid-South Regional Winner of the NATS Artist Awards in 2025. Desiree is a voice teacher and opera director at Rhodes College.

  • Ina Torres O’Ryan (MM Vocal Performance 2024, DMA in progress) First prize in the voice division at the Delta Symphony Orchestra’s 35th Annual Young Artist Competition in 2026. In 2025, she sang the role of Tisbe in the world premiere of Cinderella’s Royal Feast, was a Milnes Studio Artist at Savannah Voice Festival, sang the role of Fidalma in Il matrimonio segreto, and was a Young Artist at FIO Italia in Urbania, Italy. In 2024, Ina sang the role of Georges Sand in Notes on Viardot with Music on Site Opera and was a Young Artist at Taos Opera Institute.

  • Nicole Huff (MM Vocal Performance 2026) Is the first winner of the International Aria Competition at the Institute of Performing Arts International in Germany, Summer 2025.

  • Cami Moses (MM Vocal Performance 2026) National Semifinalist in the Opera Ebony Benjamin Matthews Vocal Competition in New York, Fall 2025.

  • Alyce Tarver (DMA Vocal Performance 2025) Assistant Professor of Voice at Rust College. Poster Presentation, “Vibrato: A Shaky State of Affairs,” at the Voice Foundation’s National Symposium, May 2026. Teaching Fellow at the International Performing Arts Institute in Germany, July 2024.

  • Katrina Cole (MM Vocal Performance 2025) Poster Presentation, “Voce Moderna: A Contemporary Aria Project,” for the National Opera Association in 2025 and at the NATS National Convention in San Antonio.

  • Brianna Reilly (MM Vocal Performance 2021, DMA Vocal Performance 2025) Voice Teacher and Choir Director at Dyersburg State Community College.

  • Diana Flores (MM Vocal Performance 2025) Pursuing a Professional Studies Diploma at the Mannes School of Music at The New School’s College of Performing Arts. Will sing the role of the Governess in The Turn of the Screw with Chicago Summer Opera, July 2026. In 2025, she sang Mimì in La Bohème with the Mediterranean Opera Studio and Summer Festival in Italy.

  • Bradley Sowell (DMA Vocal Performance 2024) Is an Assistant Professor of Voice at Valdosta State University in Georgia.

  • Cayce Murphy (MM Vocal Performance 2024) Is the Chorus and General Music Teacher at Hayes Middle School in West Virginia and was a National Finalist for The American Prize in Voice: Friedrich & Virginia Schorr Memorial Award, University Art Song/Oratorio Division, 2024.

  • Judy Morehouse Shelton (DMA in progress) Director of the Musical Theater Department and Vocal Coordinator at East Texas Baptist University.

  • Camden Kegley (BM Vocal Performance 2023) Is pursuing his MM in Vocal Performance at the University of Houston. He was a Young Opera Artist at Opera in the Ozarks in 2025.

  • Shannon Lowe Redburn (MM Vocal Performance 2019, DMA Vocal Performance 2021) Director of Choral Activities at The Pembroke Hill School in Kansas City, Missouri.

  • Isabel Celata (MM Vocal Performance 2021) Operations Manager at Opera for the Young in Madison, Wisconsin, and Adjunct Voice Professor at Beloit College. DMA in Vocal Performance at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, 2025.

  • Cassie Warthen (MM Vocal Performance 2021) Is Adjunct Voice Faculty at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia.

  • Nancy Carey (DMA Vocal Performance 2021) Associate Professor of Voice and Theory at the University of Louisiana Monroe.

  • TJ Timmerman (BM Music Education 2020) Was named Houston Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2025.

  • Marissa Howard (MM Vocal Performance 2019) Featured Opera Artist in the film YAPs by Victory Hall Opera.

  • Donia Wade (MM Vocal Performance 2018) Is the Director of the Bartlett Area Community Chorus and Director of Music at Bartlett United Methodist Church.
