A one-time application fee and some course fees may apply.
Application Fee
If you have not attended the University of ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½, there is a one-time application fee of $30 that you must pay during the application submission process.
Course Fees
The Elite Student Audit Program is a scholarship program. Tuition is paid for by the State of Tennessee. The program does not pay for course fees or student activity fees. Students are responsible for satisfying course fees. Student activity fees will be assessed if an Elite Auditor registers at full time or greater than full time.
Course fees may be found on each section on the web schedule.
Can I take courses for credit through this program?
No. Sections taken through the Elite Student Audit Program are audit only and cannot be changed to be for credit. If you would like to earn academic credits, please register for this section in a future term as a credit-bearing course. Or, if you will become 65 during the semester and would like to take courses for credit, see University & Student Business Services Tuition Discounts and Waivers page.
What are the participation expectations?

What courses can I audit?
You can audit courses in nearly all departments. The only exceptions are TN eCampus (R50) courses and ARCH, NURS, and AVIA courses. You may audit MUAP and MUTC private lesson courses with a permit issued from the Music department. You may not audit Independent Study, Dual Enrollment, or Honors courses. Also, Professional, Continuing Education and Career Training programs are not included.
Permission to audit is limited according to space availability. If a permit is required, you will need to request it from the instructor/department.
- If a class requires a permit and if the instructor approves, please provide instructor approval to the department. The department will enter the permit and the Elite Student Auditor may register for the class. It is up to the instructor’s discretion to allow Elite Student audit registration (which is the practice with any audit registration).
- If a Graduate-level Elite Student Auditor receives a level restriction on an Undergraduate class, please reach out to Ragan Young rmyoung@memphis.edu who can enter the level permit.
Registration in online classes will be allowed based on the review of space availability in the section. Please email Darla Keel at darkeel@memphis.edu for more information.
We encourage Elite Auditors to contact the assigned instructor of a section to explain they are an auditor and ask if they have any issue with an auditor attending class and what the instructor’s expectations are for the auditor. Please note that instructors may deny registration. In this case, if the student is already registered, the instructor will email the Elite Auditor with a request to drop the section, cc'ing eliteaudit@memphis.edu.

Elite Auditors interested in auditing a Law course must meet the additional following criteria: Be a practicing attorney, be a member of the faculty of the University, or be a graduate of the University. Elite Auditors must also have approval from the instructor, and they are subject to any conditions required by the instructor. For questions about approval to Elite Audit a Law section, please contact Cheryl F Edwards at cedwrds2@memphis.edu.
